Self-Portrait Monoprint (July 6-7, 1pm-5pm) Participants will learn about the monoprint process. They will use soft pastels & or watercolors with mesh screens to create monoprint self portraits.
Tortilla Press Lino Cut (July 27-28, 1pm-5pm) Participants will know how to safely use linoleum carving tools to remove areas that when inked, will leave a unique print. They will understand that various soft surfaces can be carved to create a stamp like result. Participants will know how to make multiple prints of their designs using a tortilla press and intaglio inks.
Kitchen Lithography (July 29, 1pm-5pm) Participants will know that lithography is method of printmaking originally based on the immiscibility of oil and water. Although printing is usually done using a stone or metal plate, they will know how to achieve the same results using aluminum foil as a printing plate. They will know proper inking techniques and experiment with printing on different papers.
UTSA Printmaking Studio Visit (July 31, 12pm-4pm) Participants will know what a college print studio looks like. They will understand the various forms of printmaking that is taught at UTSA, and will know how to print their various materials using the equipment at UTSA. They will know what a college student gallery looks like and will have seen graduate art student studios. *Parent/Guardian permission slip required.
